Exquisite French Tortoiseshell Sewing Box

An exquisite 19th century, French tortoise shell sarcophagus form sewing box with lion-mask ring handles, the cover with bone and silver stringing and silver cartouche monogrammed “M. Wilcox”.

The interior revealing a removable wooden compartmentalized tray, fitted with 13 compartments for needlework accoutrements, three with bone domed tortoiseshell lids.

Circa 1830’s - 40’s. Original key. Some restorations.
