Translation of text on reverse:
This painting is attributed to the Italian Painter ‘Giovanni Battista Salvi’ of Sassoferrato in the country where he was born in 1605, and died in Rome in 1685.
Beginning under the leadership of ‘Tarquinio Salvi’ (his father), and then becoming the disciple of “Domenichino”, from which his work resembles an artistic point of view. He was inspired by the great teachers working in Rome and Napoli at the time.
Well known for his Madonna, which always had an expression of ultimate nobility without the adornment of ‘crowns’ or ‘crosses’ but vested with cloaks of simplicity.
Known to be: Madonna in Prayer; Madonna of the Rosary, found in the Church of Holy Savin on the Aventino hill in Rome; Madonna with Child, in San Giuesseppe (neighborhood of Naples, in southern Italy); Assumption and Annunciation.
The golden frame known as “Saved Rose” of the same period as the painting that was restored in Rome in 1937.
