Frederick Kaemmerer divided his time between Paris and the place of his birth, La Haye. His early works were often small, highly finished canvases of late 18th-and early 19th-century anecdotal history subjects.
In 1889 he won a silver medal at the Exposition Universelle and was made Chevalier of the Légion d’Honneur.
