Sensational 19th C. Silver Sanctuary Lamp

Sensational Continental silver hanging sanctuary lamp by Jean Van Damme of Bruges, Belgium, of bulbous form with acanthus leaf repousse decoration all around and three applied winged angel head supports suspending chains attached to a crown form canopy, with later flashed red glass votive. Jean Van Damme, a well-known artisan, was noted for his superb workmanship and was very esteemed for his productions.  The church of Notre Dame, Poekapelle, possesses a chalice by him, and the church of St. John the Baptist, Beveren has an ostensorium by Damme.  See.
