Sensational set of 31 nineteenth century Celestial engraved and hand colored charts by Samuel Leigh, from Urania's Mirror, or a View of the Heavens. London: S. Leigh, circa 1823.  

Measure: 7 ¾”h x 5 ½”w 

In overall good condition, some with minor tearing and discoloration consistent with age.  The original tissue backing removed. 

This exquisite series of celestial card charts show the constellations as known in the early nineteenth century. The constellations are each depicted with a odiac vignette image, the stars also noted, and the entire card is highlighted with bright hand color. Of particular interest is the fact that the major stars are also indicated with a pierced hole in the card, letting the star locations shine through when the card is held to a light.
