Le Arpie Gentili Plates by Fornasetti

 L’Arpie Gentile

A Series of 6 Plates by Piero Fornasetti, c. 1950

Typical of the artist’s whimsy and vivid imagination, each plate depicting a harpy in a gilded cage. 10” diameter.

The Milanese painter, sculptor and interior decorator, Piero Fornasetti (1913-1988) was an important force in 20th century decorative arts where he introduced surrealism to ‘everyday’ objects. Known for his ‘elegant and mystical sense of humor”, Fornasetti’s out-put of furniture and objects extended to enormous variety and creativity.
