A sensational late eighteenth century Baroque style bust of a woman personifying Diana, signified by a crescent moon worn on a fillet in her hair and by the right breast left bare. Shoulders and left breast covered by a drapery that is knotted over the right shoulder and attached by a band. Her head elevated and her gaze looks upward, with hair brushed back and arranged in sculpted rolls and curls piled at the crown and trailing down behind the neck with a strand over her left shoulder. The sculpture formed of red terra cotta, with opaque white tin glaze. The bust attached with a plaster or putty joint to a round faux painted molded socle base. Restorations to nose, moon and ruffle.
